New Film Project
Thursday, April 23, 2009 by conniecollinsFund Raising for the film BUSINESS OF MERCY.
Anyone want to help these kids open a restaurant in Phnom Penh, Cambodia? And help me make a film about it?

They have been practicing by catering boxed lunches for their church. Even the littlest girl has a job to do! This restaurant will give each of them another hedge against the sex trade. (please watch REMEMBER NHU in the video portfolio section of this site)
BUSINESS OF MERCY is the documenting of the life of two of the girls. They live on the edge of disaster, because they are poor, female and an ethnic minority. They have little hope of what our children take for granted, like human rights, or finishing elementary school. We'll document their transition into little entrepreneurs, in the midst of a culture very different from our own.
Centuries of tradition have determined that their value is rooted in the ability to support family members, even to the sacrifice of their bodies. No one can change this for them. But with some wealth from the west, we can put them in business for themselves.
If we help them earn, we can keep them from the sex trade.
The yet un-named restaurant will cost $10,000.00 to open. It'll give work to scores of young girls so they can have value in their culture, without entering the sex trade. It will truly be a Business of Mercy.
Think about helping to fund this film, and the restaurant. Your donation will be tax deductible through my non-profit corp, Essential Story Inc. The first $10,000.00 will be given to Remember Nhu for the restaurant. Their web site is beautiful, donated by a marvelous photographer Stephen Piscura. www.remembernhu.org
Together we'll open a restaurant for the kids, AND make sure their story gets told to the public. How cool is that?

Tuesday, March 30, 2010Hi Connie this sounds amazing! I am actually leading a group of girls from my school over to Cambodia to work with the girls of Remember Nhu. Keep me updated on this project! It sounds amazing. I would love to be a part of it as much as I possibly can.
